Camping With Coach-Net: Terry The RV Tech

Terry is still fairly new to our family here at Coach-Net! And although he joined us almost a year ago, he has over 40 years of experience in the RV industry which makes him an amazing asset to have on our team! He loves the outdoors, classic cars, riding his Harley, and helping RVers enjoy a carefree lifestyle on the road! He recapped his trip for us, here’s what he had to say!

My wife and I were able to take the Coach-Net Airstream to the Vineyards Campground & Cabins in Grapevine Texas. It is a beautiful facility on the shore of Lake Grapevine and is city-owned and maintained. Our site was by the lake which made it especially beautiful at night when the lights from the marina nearby shown atop the water. We enjoyed 3 nights there and met some kind people who were also enjoying the facilities and beautiful weather that weekend. Thankfully, the trip went smoothly with no challenges or mishaps and I was even able to do a little maintenance on the camper.

Sundown At The Campsite

During our trip, I was able to do a bit of fishing. While I had a line in the water, a little boy named Diego walked over to me. He was 6 years old and while I offered to let him fish he was content to just keep me company and ask questions kids will do. He wanted to keep the fish I caught as pets but I was able to convince him that we needed to toss them back so they would be able to enjoy life in the lake. He reminded me of when my boys were that age and it was nice to have him as a company.

Terry Fishing

It was a great weekend, but it ended too soon. My wife and I plan to go there again sometime, the facilities were very nice and the people working there were super. In the meantime, we would love to take a tour of our beautiful state of Texas and explore some of the out-of-the-way places that this state has to offer.

When our family was young I happened to drive past a farm not too far from the small town where we lived. They had a small and very old “turtle” camper in their yard with a for sale sign on it that said 200 dollars. I went up to the house and gave him the 20 dollars I had in my pocket and told him I would be right back with the rest and something to pull it with. I parked it in my back yard and spent the next few weeks remodeling the inside, adding plumbing and electricity. We used that little camper for many years while our kids were growing up and made many memories with it. I sold it after the kids went to college to a young family who said they were going to use it to make memories with their family as well. I’m glad it could go to a good home.

Terry & Friends Around The RV

While my ideal RV has two wheels, one seat, an engine, handlebars, and a bedroll on the back, my wife’s is a house on wheels with a bed and restroom. So if I expect her to come along with me, we do it the way she wants! It is nice to be able to pull into a rest area, campground, or Walmart and just cook supper, take a shower, watch some TV, and go to sleep.

Terry's Wife Next To The Airstream

I’ve been in the RV business for 40 + years in every part of the industry there is and can attest to the fact that there are thousands of folks that are hooked on the RV lifestyle. There is a freedom that comes with it that draws you in and holds you and won’t let you go. You can tell you’ve got the fever when even though you’re glad to be home from being on the road, the next day you are already planning your next adventure.

Shannon, Coach-Netโ€™s Client Sales Manager is always on the go.ย  When sheโ€™s not traveling across the country to train our partners, she loves being outdoors, especially when it involves her two adorable daughters.ย  Shannon took her girls on an adventure in Coach-Netโ€™s Airstream, Rosie, and they had a memorable time.ย  So much so, that Shannonโ€™s eldest started calling Rosie her very own โ€œsilver sparkly RVโ€ and canโ€™t wait to go again.

Where did you go?

My daughters and I went to the Vineyards Campground in Grapevine, TX. It’s a beautiful campsite right off the water.

Campsite

How long was your trip?

We spent 2 nights and three days there over the weekend for a little getaway!

Was this your 1st time RVing?

At the time yes, it was my first time RVing. I have now been out in the Airstream several times and each time has been a blast!

Whatโ€™s the fondest memory of your trip?

Shannon's daughters camping.

My favorite part was how much my girls loved the RV. They were so excited when they arrived at the campground and saw it for the first time. Quinn, my eldest daughter kept calling it the silver sparkly RV. We also made smores which was their first time having them and they loved it.

Did you find anything challenging about your RV trip?

The only difficult part was remembering the process for getting the Airstream set up, leveled, and secured. It was quite overwhelming, thankfully David, our CEO walked me through setting up and tearing down which eased my worries. I also made sure I knew which RV Technicians we had working that weekend in case something went awry.

Would you go again?

Shannon's Camping Trip Picture

Iโ€™ve already been a few times since this trip and I would absolutely plan to go with my girls again. We are all itching to get back in the Airstream soon!

Where would you like to go next?

I would like to try to go a bit further and get more comfortable with towing the RV. I have been thinking about driving it up into Oklahoma for my next outing. I’ve heard great things about Broken Bow!

Why do you love RVing?

There is nothing better than waking up in the morning, pouring your first cup of coffee, and enjoying it right outside. I love spending my time outdoors, so to have it all at your fingertips while camping is the best. I’m in nature from first thing in the morning to last thing at night. Couldn’t ask for anything better.

Coach-Net Camping: Camp RiverviewTonya has been with Coach-Net for four and a half years. For the past two years, she has been responsible for our Accounts Payable and Compliance. She and her husband have four teenagers at home and they love to travel, explore new places, and spend time in the outdoors. They make sure to take one trip a year without the kids each May to celebrate their anniversary. This year, for their 19th, they decided to take the RV out for the first time. Read on to see how her trip went!

Where did you go?

Camp Riverview Staff Helping Set Up The RVOur goal was to see Garner State Park, but camping there is usually booked far in advance so we booked a site at a local RV Park, Camp Riverview RV Park in Concan, TX. I highly recommend this place. Our site had full hook-ups and sat only a few hundred yards from the Frio River. The staff was awesome. They greeted us upon arriving and even had people available to help us pull into the site and set everything up. Iโ€™m not ashamed to admit, we let them. It was hot! Thanks, Bill!

How long was your trip?

We went on Memorial Day Weekend, so it was four days and three nights. After our whole family being together on shelter-in-place orders since mid-March, we were well ready for this trip! We spent time at the RV park of course, but we also visited Garner State Park, the Frio Bat Cave Tours, and did a half-day float on the Frio.

Was this your 1st time RVing?

Yes and we truly enjoyed the experience. My parents had a really nice Dodge Conversion van growing up. That was as close as I ever got to RVโ€™ing. Neither of us had pulled anything that size or set up an RV before. We took turns driving the 350 miles down south and I think I did a pretty good job pulling it.

Whatโ€™s the fondest memory of your trip?

There were a couple storms while we were down there. The second storm came with some hail, so it was a little more exciting! โ€œRosieโ€ (The Airstream) held up in the storms while my husband and I held up inside. We intended to use the grill for steaks but ended up making full use of the Airstreamโ€™s kitchen that night. My husband cooked while I cuddled up in the booth with a blanket and my journal watching the storm out of the big front windows.

Did you find anything challenging about your RV trip?

Honestly, we didnโ€™t find anything too difficult. Though my husband might answer that question totally differently!

Would you go again?

Tonya And Her HusbandI would most definitely go again. We plan to! We like to camp with the kids several times a year. We all enjoy hiking and swimming. My son Noah especially loves to fish and build campfires for us. They are super excited to take the Airstream on our next trip.

Where would you like to go next?

We would like to go back to Surfside Beach, TX. On the last trip, we rented a house and Noah caught so many fish. He wants to go back and camp on the beach. We also want to go back to Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, OK. Itโ€™s a very unique gem. My kids can post up at Little Niagara Falls and jump or tube the whole day. Weโ€™ve only made day trips there but would like to camp for the whole weekend one of these days.

Why do you love RVing?

Having a camper just makes camping more bearable for me. Letโ€™s be honest, Texas has very hot summers. Having a place to get under the a/c is priceless. RVs just come with so many more conveniences than tent camping. Mostly, however, I just love how having an RV can turn a campsite, even temporarily, into a home. I love how neighborly everyone is. I love seeing families spending time together. I like seeing how they bring everything and string up lights and set up house. I canโ€™t wait to go again.

The agents, technician and follow up folks were knowledgeable and did a great job putting us at ease while they handled everything. The tow company was professional and knew their stuff. Iโ€™m a Coach-Net customer for life!”

Haley is our fun-loving, funny & spunky office manager here at Coach-Net! She has been essential to Coach-Net for the past year in making sure everything in the office is ship shape! She was able to take out our Airstream recently, here’s how it went!

Where did You go?

I took the Airstream to a small RV park just down the road from Lake Ray Roberts.

RV parks are ideal for first-time campers. Most have staff on-site in case you have any questions.

Was it your first time RVing?

Iโ€™ve been on trips with my family many times but, this was my first time towing.

I was nervous about it and my route was under construction. It was sort of like taking a driving course. I definitely felt more confident after that drive!

What is your fondest memory of the trip?

I really enjoyed getting the hands-on experience. Part of my responsibility as the office manager was co-creating a user guide for our employees so they understand the ins and outs of the RV. Typing this up was certainly different from just going out and learning what to do with what is right in front of you. I also enjoyed being able to explore the surrounding area! I saw several animals including this gorgeous deer that decided to come my way!

Deer

Would you go again?

Absolutely! I would really like to take the Airstream over to Caddo Lake in Uncertain, TX. Thatโ€™s my favorite place to camp. Picture a New Orleans bayou without any people. Itโ€™s so peaceful and beautiful.

Why do you love RVing?

I feel less limited in a lot of ways. If I wanted to go somewhere by myself or just with the gals, we have a door that we can lock so we can be safe in our little Airstream. If weather becomes an issue, we can still cook or find an activity inside, the trip isnโ€™t ruined.

Haley

My favorite thing is getting to know the people camping around me. You donโ€™t have to have anything else in common to talk about but RV trips and how they love the lifestyle. That alone makes for some very interesting conversation.
