If you’ve followed us on social media, you know that Haley has been an avid camper for many years now, but this past year was a busy one for her! She has traveled to many places and had some awesome experiences! Here’s her recap on the year!

We went camping quite a bit in 2020. Tyler State Park, Caddo Lake, Lake Ray Roberts, and our most recent trip was to Alto, New Mexico, and White Sands National Park.

Haley in White Sands National Park

Most of our camping destinations are weekend trips. There are a lot of beautiful parks that are only a couple hours away so, it’s easy to plan these miniature vacations.

I turned the big 3-0 a few weeks ago and my favorite place to celebrate anything is Caddo Lake State Park in Karnack, Texas. We got there in the afternoon. We drove around a bit and took some photos and got to kayak on the lake.

Caddo Lake

That evening we had the most amazing meal at Marilynn’s Place in Shreveport. The next day we went over to the park, went hiking, and walked around under the amazing cypress trees and Spanish moss.

Our most recent trip was to New Mexico for Christmas. This took a little longer but, it’s absolutely gorgeous and well worth the drive. I don’t know if people have favorite types of dirt but, I love seeing terracotta and there’s more than plenty in west Texas.

Especially in Brownfield. It’s mostly farmland so, the contrast between the orange dirt and green crops against the big blue sky is breathtaking. My boyfriend had never experienced Roswell so, it was fun to see his reaction to the martian shaped streetlamps, dental and law offices with pictures of UFOs on their signs, and a family reunion group wearing matching outer space t-shirts.

We spent a few days with my family in Alto where we hiked, had picnics, and came face to face with some elk. On the last day, we headed for White Sands National Park. I had wanted to go there since I was a kid and it was everything I could have hoped for. We immediately began making plans to go back and tent camp. After an entire roll of film, we started to head home.

White Sands National Park

We were pretty far south so, we took a different route. This took us through the mountains and an apple orchard town called Cloudcroft. A place that can only be described as adorable. We drove through a mountainside tunnel and all of the Lincoln National Forrest. New Mexico is called The Land of Enchantment and it certainly doesn’t fall short.

We have already booked our next camping trip. We’re going to Mineral Wells State Park in February. We have also been planning a trip to Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge in New Orleans for September. I’m already really looking forward to these trips and everything in between.

Choosing between a campsite and a hotel is truly a no brainer for me. I’m thankful to have a partner who shares this opinion and a job that celebrates it and encourages me to go out and find new beautiful places to explore. I’m one happy camper!

Hartrich J. ~ “The service call to Coach-Net was answered immediately and the tow truck was here within 30 minutes. A follow-up call was made and we were very pleased with all of the responses. The tow truck company was personable and wonderful to work with. He had our vehicle at the dealer in half an hour! What a wonderful experience all around. Thank you!”

Coach-Net Holiday Trip

At Coach-Net, we have a passion for helping other RVers as we are RVers ourselves. Leonard, one of our RV-certified technicians, has been with Coach-Net for 6 years but has been RVing for over 30 years. He owns a 2013 Forest River Wildwood, a 33-ft tow behind travel trailer. Leonard does not miss an opportunity to go camping and recently celebrated new years in Florida. Here’s a look into his trip!

1. Where did you go?

While visiting family in south Florida over the holidays, we celebrated bringing in the new year by camping in my dad’s 1999 Beaver Monticello (40″ diesel pusher) at the Everglades Isle Motorcoach Resort.  It’s located right in the middle of Everglade City, Florida along the Barron River.  We learned that the river was named after the famous real estate developer, Barron Collier, who established the town.  Everglade City is also known as the “Stone Crab Capital” of the world.  Boy, are they delicious to eat!  Experiencing the unique scenery, and discovering the history of the area are a couple of our favorite things to do wherever we are RVing.  There is always something new to see, to do, and to eat!

  1. How long was your trip?

RV Resort - FloridaWe spent 3 nights, 4 days with family and friends enjoying the resort’s amenities, as well as, exploring the historical surroundings, boating around the 10,000 Islands, watching the airboat tours taking people out to see the alligators, and soaking in the vibrant sunsets. As usual, we packed as much as we could to get the most out of each day.

  1. Was this your 1st time RVing?

No, but this was our 1st time RVing in just my dad’s rig, which made it extra special. We have been camping for over 30 years with our own kids and friends, enjoying many different types of campers and places.  Also, it was our 1st time staying in an exclusive “motorcoach” retreat. Being a master Certified Tech at Coach-Net, it was interesting to walk around comparing all the eclectic styles and features of so many of the RV’s we take calls on.

  1. What’s the fondest memory of your trip?

Our fondest memories of this trip were made celebrating New Year’s Eve at the resort.   We enjoyed a nice Prime Rib dinner and entertainment in the clubhouse, followed by a spectacular fireworks show over the water.  It was a wonderful way to ring in a new decade with exciting “cheers” to making many more memories together RVing.

  1. Did you find anything challenging about your RV trip?

Actually, while we were there the refrigerator supply line starting leaking.  My dad and I found that the compression fitting was the issue and had to replace it.  A quick trip to the hardware store and our problem was resolved.  Another reason RVing is so beneficial to me and my skills.  There are learning opportunities for every trip!

  1. Would you go again?

Leonard & FriendsWe are always up for another RVing adventure, whether it be in an RV Resort, State Park, or Campground. There are so many beautiful places left to be seen on our traveling bucket list.

  1. Where would you like to go next?

We would like to take a short camping trip out to see the Buffalo again in Caprock Canyon State Park.  We were there several years ago when the herd was just being established.  Our next long adventure will take us out to the Southwest desert area.  Visiting Lake Havasu City, Arizona to see the town where Coach-Net started would definitely on our list of things to do.

  1. Why do you love RVing?

My family and I love RVing for the many opportunities it gives us to explore new places, make lasting memories, meet new friends, and enjoy a relaxing lifestyle as we travel.  Cheers to safe travels

Our Las Vegas RVing Adventure

Our Las Vegas Adventure

The phrase “Las Vegas camping” seems contradictory, but as RVers we really do get to enjoy the best of both worlds. Nearly every year my husband and I head to Sin City to enjoy it from the comforts of our home on wheels. Here’s why it never ceases to amuse and entertain us.

Las Vegas RVing is Cheap, Easy and Fun

Gambling isn’t our thing, but we love great entertainment, food, drinks and parties. Las Vegas is all of the above and then some. As a bonus, it has great RV parks with easy access to the Strip or Downtown. We’ve visited at least four of them but two stand out among the rest.

When you’re after a glitz and glam Vegas experience from the comfort of your home on wheels, check into the Las Vegas Oasis Resort. We enjoyed our stay at this full-service RV resort that’s just a 10 minute Uber ride from the Strip. Sure, Vegas has plenty of other RV parks, but we haven’t found one that matches the caliber of this resort. The gated park features everything you would expect from a great hotel, like beautiful swimming pools, a modern fitness center, on-site concierge, 18-hole putting green, restaurant and more. When the slots are loose and your wallet’s wide open, this is a first-class getaway for RVers in search of a glamorous getaway.Puppy Dog

We enjoyed being close to the Strip when staying at the luxurious Oasis, but once we discovered a small RV park within walking distance of the quirky, freaky fun on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, all bets were off. The revitalized area is slowly shedding its seedy reputation and attracting more adventurous tourists like us in search of the “Old Vegas” experience. From cheap happy hour drinks at local watering holes like the Downtown Cocktail Room,  to free live music in places like the El Cortez Hotel Lounge, Downtown has all of the fun and games of the Strip—with a much nicer price tag.

Freaky Fun on Fremont Street

Downtown Las Vegas only has one RV park, which is operated by Main Street Station Casino. Keep in mind that calling it a “park” is a generous use of the term. The small facility is located under the freeway on the fringes of a rough neighborhood. This Las Vegas RVing experience is nothing more than an asphalt parking lot with hookups and parking spaces so tightly packed that you can touch your neighbor’s slide out if you dare.

Parked In Las Vegas

And although it sounds like a terrible place, we discovered that the benefits outweigh the downsides. For starters, the park is about half the price of other Las Vegas RV parks closer to the Strip. It also has easy freeway access but best of all, Main Street Station RV Park is within easy walking distance to Downtown casinos and the world-famous Fremont Street Experience.

The heart and soul of Downtown Vegas is on Fremont Street. It’s an ongoing pedestrian party scene where Halloween and New Year’s Eve blend into one continuous year-round holiday as an endless parade of weird and wild revelers loudly saunter from casino to bar, bar to casino and back again. Sure, it’s a tourist trap but it’s fun, free and I guarantee you’ve never experienced people-watching like this.

Downtown has other attractions too, like the Mob Museum, which spotlights organized crime’s impact on America, and the Neon Museum, a funky boneyard of well-reserved vintage Vegas neon signs and show-stopping lights.

Where to Go After Your Vegas RV Getaway

Some years we stay longer in Las Vegas than others. But no matter how short the visit, we always benefit from a sensory detox in the surrounding desert scenery of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Every type of camping exists within the 1.5 million acres of public lands located just 20 minutes east of civilization. From free dry camping to full-hookups at two concessionaire-operated campgrounds, we always enjoy and easy and effective retreat from our wild ride in Las Vegas.

Our travels rarely take us into big cities. Most just don’t seem worth the stress and hassle of squeezing our RV into busy city streets. But Las Vegas is different. There’s something otherworldly and weird about hauling our home on wheels into the glitzy chaos of an oasis in the desert. Vegas really is a great place to visit for RVers like us, but we sure wouldn’t want to camp there forever.
