Nashville Map

Once you get past all of the festivities of the 4th of July you may not think there are many family-friendly activities in July for those in the Nashville area. Well, they may not be as obvious as the parades, fireworks, and patriotic celebrations of Independence Day but Nashville still has a lot to offer you and your family in July. Head out in your RV, find a nearby campsite, and get away to one of these great events!

July 13 – Tennessee State Museum “Tunes, Tales & Treasures”

Learn more about the Civil War here in Tennessee with a special Discovery Day at the Tennessee State Museum. From 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday July 13th, the special event will feature a one-person play about Harriet Beecher Stowe, there will be Civil War-era music performed by Granville Automatic and a separate performance by the The 1861 Project. There will also be information available about researching Civil War ancestors, and other related activities. It is free to attend and an opportunity for the whole family to learn more about this important part of Tennessee and U.S. history.

July 21 – The Grease Sing-A-Long

You know the movie, you love the music and you can sing the words. Be a part of “Grease” at the Franklin Theater in full-screen Technicolor. Subtitles will even be provided so the whole gang can sing along. It all starts with a little vocal warm-up that will be led by Nashville Opera singers. The group will take the audience through a complimentary ‘magic moments pack’, which contains some fun props that the crowd will use at specific points during the film. You are encouraged to add to the fun by dressing up as Sandy, Danny, the Pink Ladies or any of your favorite characters from the film. You are also welcomed to come as you are! There will be prizes awarded though for the best costumes! The Grease Sing A Long is Sunday, July 21st at 1:30 pm with the doors opening at 1:00 PM

July 24th – The Monkees
Hey, hey, they’re the Monkees and they are following up on their sold out 2012 fall tour. Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork return to the stage this summer as the Ryman Theater plays host to a reprise from last year due to an overwhelming demand from fans. The Monkees are at it again and the whole family will enjoy this fun concert.

July 26th – The DCI Tour of Champions Series

If you have never seen a drum and bugle corps presentation in person be prepared to be blown away. Precision drumming, blaring brass and remarkable marching are all part of the Drum Corps International Tour. The event takes place at Johnny “Red” Floyd stadium at Middle Tennessee State University on
Friday, July 26th. The DCI Tour of Champions event series is a format featuring the top eight corps from last year, assuring you are seeing the best of the best. The show will give fans the chance to enjoy the drum corps experience and a finale that will impress.

Are you going to be in the Nashville area in July? If so, we would love to hear about any additional activities you are planning or have heard about. Have a safe, memorable time in your RV this July!

If you are looking for the ultimate pet-friendly campground in the United States you may not have to look any farther than North Carolina. Just minutes away from the metropolitan areas of Rutherfordton, Spindale and Forest City in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains,is Four Paws Pet Kingdom. Four Paws Pet Kingdom claims that it is “The First and Only Dog Dedicated Campground in the U.S.” We could find nothing to dispute that.

Four Paws campground is on 34 acres in the foothills of the Blue RidgeMountains. Now, you don’t HAVE to have a dog to camp here but FourPaws sure makes it appealing if you do. Let’s take a closer look at how.Pet Friendly Camping

Amenities

Four Paws has many of the standard campground amenities including fire rings, free wi-fi, and full hook-ups, and they also provide cable TV hookups that include…The Animal Planet. What really makes Four Paws Pet Kingdom stand out however are the amenities for dogs. They include:

  • A fully fenced dog park with a huge off-leash, free run area
  • Fully fenced agility fun playground for all
  • The Rally-O Obedience Arena
  • A separate fully fenced playground for small dogs
  • Fully fenced “Linus Creek Park” an off -leash free run area with Creek access.
  • A fully fenced championship size agility ring and equipment
  • Doggy bathhouse and grooming stations
  • 16 acres of on-leash hiking trails
  • A doggy swim pond for swimming, splashing and exploring
  • Treats and more at Doggy Check-in

There are also dog walking services available. Private obedience training and behavior and agility training classes can be provided by their resident trainer for a fee.

Events

Four Paws season is the end of March through early December. Just about every weekend there are activities and events. There are pet costume contests, karaoke, potlucks, crafts and a variety of themed parties. Be advised that they are closed for “The dog days of summer” from July 29th through August 22nd.

Four Paws Pet Kingdom has only been in existence for 10 years. Because of their location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains they strongly suggest you call them for the best directions, particularly if you are driving a big rig. If you are looking to truly share your RV experience with Fido, Four Paws Pet Kingdom is certainly worth a look. They seem to enjoy their work!

Do you have a pet that enjoys RV camping as much as you do? We think they may have found a new destination!

Destination Highlight- Bryce Canyon, National Park

Bryce Canyon National Park

Inspiring. Surreal. Breathtaking. These are just some of the words that people have used to describe Bryce Canyon, Utah. Bryce Canyon is a National Park that encompasses almost 36,000 acres of Southwestern Utah.

History

Historians have indicated that people have lived in the Bryce Canyon area for over 10,000 years. The Paiute Indians are credited with calling the stone formations so prominent in the park “hoodoos,” or pinnacles. They are also credited with creating much of the mythology surrounding these hoodoos. These stories include the story of Coyote, being somewhat of a trickster, who turned the Legend People into these hoodoos.

When the Mormons came to Utah in the 1850’s, they eventually sent Ebenezer Bryce to the area. It was here he built a road, a canal and he began to raise cattle. When other settlers followed him, they began to refer to the area as “Bryce’s canyon”, which eventually became known as Bryce Canyon. Drought, flooding, and the ultimate over-grazing of the area led to those early settlers leaving the area along with the remaining Paiute Indians. Congress made the area a national park in 1928.

The real story though is its history of 5 million years of erosion that has that has created, and continues to create, a stunning display of natural formations.

What You Can Expect to See

Bryce Canyon offers visitors unforgettable views of natural rock formations that seem to rise out of the ground. Many who visit are spiritually moved by witnessing such creations, which seem to be around every corner.

There is so much to see here you will want to carefully plan your adventure. Bryce Amphitheater alone is worth taking a day to see. Formations here include:

  • Thor’s Hammer
  • Aquarias Plateau
  • Grotoes
  • Silent City
  • The Alligator

While you can see much of Bryce Canyon’s amazing beauty from strategically placed parking areas in the park, there are some incredible views that can be best seen by hiking through a variety of trails. This will give you a close up sense of the size and significance of each of these formations.

RV Camping

While there are multiple private RV camping options around the Bryce Canyon area, there are two within the park itself. There is the North Campground and the Sunset Campground. Both are close to the visitor center and to the Bryce Amphitheater. The North Campground has 13 RV sites available by reservation and another 86 RV and Tent Sites that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Sunset Campground does not have any RV sites that can be reserved in advance but it does have RV and Tent Sites that available on a first-come, first-served basis. In the summer these sites fill up by early afternoon.

Without bright lights or fanfare, Bryce Canyon offers up its natural beauty in impressive fashion. Sunsets can be extraordinary. It is an RV trip you and your family won’t soon forget.

Keep your RV adventures on track. Towable or motorized, make sure you have RV-specific roadside assistance with Coach-Net. Our Technical and Roadside Assistance Plans can cover all of your personal vehicles, including motorcycles, and provide coverage on any vehicle you own, rent, borrow or lease.

Destination Ideas, RV travel, Texas, Winery

Vineyard owners have learned that many parts of Texas have the perfect climate for growing grapes and making wine. This is great news for local wine lovers, who don’t have to travel far to find high quality wine. It’s the perfect state to get in your R.V and take a winery tour. There are more than 100 wineries in Texas, making it hard to decide which ones to visit. Here are five great ones that you can’t miss.

Bella Vista Ranch

Bella Vista Ranch
(Source: Bella Vista Ranch)

This winery is located in Hill Country in Wimberley, Texas. The winery is modeled after old Tuscan wineries and specializes in Italian wines. In addition to wines, Bella Vista also grows olives, and produces olive oil. They give tours of the winery to the public, which includes a tour of the olive oil company, and allows tour goers to taste a variety of products.

Flat Creek Estate

This winery is also located in Hill Country in Austin, Texas. This winery features an old world tasting room, where as a visitor you can sample some of their award wining wines grown from Italian, Portuguese, and Rhone grapes. Or you can enjoy a picnic lunch among the various patios and ponds on this 20-acre winery and vineyard. You can even book a room at Vintner’s Lodge and stay overnight.

Delaney Vineyards

This vineyard has two locations, both in North Texas and owned by vintner Jerry Delaney. These two adjacent Lamesa, Texas vineyards are host to the Delaney Vineyards and Winery Harvest and Grape stomp every August. During this popular event you can sample some of their award wining vines, and participate in the winemaking process by stomping on some of their Cynthiana grapes. They also host evenings of music and wine during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Duchman Family Winery

Duchman Family Winery

This Driftwood Texas winery has only been in existence since 2004, but it has already made a name for itself among Texas wineries. The majority of their fruit comes from the Texas High Plains, which accounts for part of the reason why their wine is so popular. At the winery, you can visit the tasting room or take a tour of the expansive grounds.

Pedernales Cellars

This winery is located in Stonewall, which is located about an hour from Austin. As a visitor to this winery, you can explore the vast grounds or enjoy a wine tasting in their newly expanded tasting room. While there, be sure to try their Texas Tempranillos, Dallas Morning News’s pick for the best Texas red wine.

When traveling through wine country or on any road trip in your RV, being stranded on the side of the road is no fun. That’s why it so important to make sure that you have reliable roadside assistance to help you any time you are away from home.
