Winter is in full swing, and if you’re looking to get out in your RV, you’re probably going to want to head south. You see, while the northern parts of the country are freezing, there are many places in the south that are still enjoying plenty of warmth and sunshine.

If you can manage to get your rig to one of these amazing places, you’ll be able to continue your camping adventures while still staying perfectly comfortable, even in the middle of the coldest season.

Wondering where to find the best warm-weather winter RV destinations in the US? Read on!

Florida

Florida is known as the Sunshine State for a reason. This place is sure to offer plenty of warm weather, even in January and February. On top of that, there are plenty of things to see and do in the state as well, meaning you’ll never get bored even if you stay the entire winter.

Orlando

Orlando may not be the warmest place in Florida, but it is warm enough and it plays host to some of the most amazing theme parks in the world. If you want to spend time in Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, or LEGOLAND Orlando, this is the winter RV spot for you!

Everglades National Park

Prefer more natural attractions? Why not plan a stay in Everglades National Park? This gorgeous park is home to all kinds of amazing wildlife, including hundreds of alligators and all sorts of birds. If you’re an animal lover, you’ll adore your time in this beautiful park.

The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are always warm and sunny, and the many adventures the islands offer are pretty incredible. Whether you want to go for a hike, spend the day relaxing on a beach, go paddling, or explore a historic site, there is something for you in the Keys.

Southern Texas

Unfortunately, campgrounds in Florida do get pretty full in the winter, so you may not be able to snag any camping reservations at this point. Need another option? Southern Texas is often overlooked as a good winter RV spot, even though there are actually a few good places to keep warm in the state.

South Padre Island

A favorite of many RVers, South Padre Island is generally the warmest spot in Texas. We love that choosing this RV winter location puts you right next to the ocean, and we especially love the amazing surfing community on the island. If you love the ocean, you’ll love staying at South Padre.

Padre Island National Seashore

Another wonderful Texas beach escape, Padre Island National Seashore is ideal for those who prefer a more natural beach area. This NPS site is home to tons of native birds and is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the beauty of Texas nature.

Southern California

Many snowbirds adore spending winters in Southern California. We can’t blame them. The warm and sunny weather paired with the amazing opportunities for outdoor recreation are pretty fantastic. Of course, the cool attractions don’t hurt anything either.

San Diego

San Diego is the place to go if you want plenty to do and some awesome culture to go along with it. Visit the world-famous San Diego Zoo, check out sea lions at La Jolla Cove, or head outside of the city to try one of the many hiking and biking trails in the area. No matter what you do, you’re sure to have a great time.

Joshua Tree National Park

Located not too far from San Diego, Joshua Tree National Park is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle. Camp right in the middle of the park or pick a boondocking spot in the vast wilderness surrounding the park. Either way, make sure to check out as many trails as you can and do plenty of stargazing.

Arizona

Lastly, we can’t forget to mention Arizona. This is a haven for winter RVers for a reason. A large part of the state stays nice and sunny during the winter months, meaning you won’t have to worry about staying comfy. On top of that, you’ll find lots of hiking trails, biking trails, and museums to keep you busy during your visit.

Phoenix

Phoenix offers lots to see and do, making it a great home base for winter RV travels. Some of our favorite Phoenix attractions include the Desert Botanical Garden, the Phoenix Zoo, the Musical Instrument Museum, the Heard Museum, and the Hole in the Rock hiking area.

Saguaro National Park

Another fantastic Arizona winter RV destination, Saguaro National Park is a must-see park that should be on every RVer’s bucket list. While you can’t RV camp in the park itself, there is plenty of RV camping in nearby Tucson, including some free boondocking.

As you can see, there are tons of great places to escape the cold and enjoy some warmth and sunshine in your RV, even in the dead of winter. Which sunny spot will you head to this season?

Robert S. ~ “The service from Coach-Net is outstanding, based on what I have seen so far I can’t imagine being unhappy with the service. I have used Coach-Net 2 times in 4 years and I was impressed both times. I recommend your company every chance I get online or in person because it’s that good. It’s not very often I will put my name behind a companies service. In my humble opinion, most companies provide lip service to cover up for their poor service that they don’t want to admit to, Coach-Net is the real deal you truly get quality service. NICE JOB Coach-Net.”

Texas State Park

Looking for an awesome place to take your RV this summer? Why not head down to Texas? Texas is an amazing place to explore, and because it’s so big, there is a lot to see and do. One of the best ways to experience Texas in an RV is by camping your way through the state’s incredible state parks.

Texas has some of the best state parks around, offering guests amazing views, awesome recreation opportunities, and even surprisingly clean bathrooms. Not only that, these parks are also incredibly diverse, featuring everything from mountains to beaches, as well as some seriously awesome caves (among other things).

Still not convinced? Read on to learn more about these state parks and why you simply must visit them.

Texas State Parks We Love

Let’s begin by discussing some of the parks we’ve visited and fallen in love with. These particular parks were simply outstanding, and we 100% recommend them to anyone with the time to work them into their travel schedule.

Dinosaur Valley State Park

Located in Glen Rose, TX, Dinosaur Valley State Park is a dino-lover’s dream come true. Here, visitors can see actual dinosaur tracks and walk in the footsteps of these amazing creatures.

Dinasour Valley

Summer is the best time to visit, as the tracks can be covered by water during other times of year, so be sure to plan accordingly. Additionally, you will want to make sure to bring good hiking gear, as some of the tracks can be a bit difficult to reach.

Galveston Island State Park

Everyone loves a good old-fashioned beach day. What if you could spend several days in a row on the beach? At Galveston Island State Park you can do exactly that.

While several of the park’s campsites are located across the road and about a mile and a half from the beach, there are a few sites that are sitting right by the water and a quick two-minute walk will have you at the beach and ready to play. What could be better than that?

Just be aware that this park does book up quickly in the summer!

McKinney Falls State Park

The location of this park simply couldn’t be better. McKinney Falls State Park is located within Austin city limits, meaning you can easily drive into the city during your stay and experience all the music, barbecue, and fun Austin has to offer.

McKinney Falls

That said, the park is secluded from all this hustle and bustle, and gives campers a great place to escape at the end of a long day of exploring. Hiking is a wonderful way to spend a day in this park, and the gorgeous falls are wonderful to look at. Best of all, the water in this park is nice and cool—perfect for swimming on a hot Texas summer day.

Other Bucket-List State Parks in Texas

While we have seen quite a few of the Texas state parks, we have yet to visit them all. For that reason, a few of these parks are still sitting on our bucket list. These are parks that we’ve heard about from traveling friends, and based on what we’ve heard, we highly recommend you add them to your list of things to see as well:

  • Big Bend Ranch State Park
  • Palo Duro Canyon State Park Colorado Bend State Park
  • Longhorn Cavern State Park

Saving Money While Camping in Texas State Parks

One of the very best things about using Texas state park campgrounds is the fact that these campsites are so well kept, yet so inexpensive. We’ve visited state parks all over the country, and feel these parks are far better than most—and yet in our experience, their rates range from only $18–$25 a night.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Logo

That said, the parks do charge campers their day-use fee on top of the camping fees. This can add up quickly, especially if you take your whole family camping, and will easily eat up any savings you may have had by staying in a state park over a private park. Luckily, there is a way around this issue.

The Texas State Parks Pass is an annual membership that allows you free entry to all of the parks, as well as waived day-use fees when camping. On top of that, those who own a Texas State Park Pass will receive half-off their second night of camping, saving you even more money.

We think this pass is well worth the $70 investment, and found it paid for itself in almost no time. Therefore, it is definitely something you’ll want to look into if you plan to camp in these parks often.

Destination Ideas, RV travel, Texas, Winery

Vineyard owners have learned that many parts of Texas have the perfect climate for growing grapes and making wine. This is great news for local wine lovers, who don’t have to travel far to find high quality wine. It’s the perfect state to get in your R.V and take a winery tour. There are more than 100 wineries in Texas, making it hard to decide which ones to visit. Here are five great ones that you can’t miss.

Bella Vista Ranch

This winery is located in Hill Country in Wimberley, Texas. The winery is modeled after old Tuscan wineries and specializes in Italian wines. In addition to wines, Bella Vista also grows olives, and produces olive oil. They give tours of the winery to the public, which includes a tour of the olive oil company, and allows tour goers to taste a variety of products.

Flat Creek Estate

This winery is also located in Hill Country in Austin, Texas. This winery features an old world tasting room, where as a visitor you can sample some of their award wining wines grown from Italian, Portuguese, and Rhone grapes. Or you can enjoy a picnic lunch among the various patios and ponds on this 20-acre winery and vineyard. You can even book a room at Vintner’s Lodge and stay overnight.

Delaney Vineyards

This vineyard has two locations, both in North Texas and owned by vintner Jerry Delaney. These two adjacent Lamesa, Texas vineyards are host to the Delaney Vineyards and Winery Harvest and Grape stomp every August. During this popular event you can sample some of their award wining vines, and participate in the winemaking process by stomping on some of their Cynthiana grapes. They also host evenings of music and wine during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Duchman Family Winery

Duchman Family Winery

This Driftwood Texas winery has only been in existence since 2004, but it has already made a name for itself among Texas wineries. The majority of their fruit comes from the Texas High Plains, which accounts for part of the reason why their wine is so popular. At the winery, you can visit the tasting room or take a tour of the expansive grounds.

Pedernales Cellars

This winery is located in Stonewall, which is located about an hour from Austin. As a visitor to this winery, you can explore the vast grounds or enjoy a wine tasting in their newly expanded tasting room. While there, be sure to try their Texas Tempranillos, Dallas Morning News’s pick for the best Texas red wine.

When traveling through wine country or on any road trip in your RV, being stranded on the side of the road is no fun. That’s why it so important to make sure that you have reliable roadside assistance to help you any time you are away from home.
