Roadside Or Insurance?

Recently it seems that almost every time you turn on the TV, an insurance company is suddenly offering roadside assistance for your RV. As a consumer, on the surface, it seems like a great idea. Who wouldn’t love a convenient one-stop-shop? But in the long run, is it really a convenient solution? More importantly, is it the best solution? As an RVer, are you really getting everything you need when you purchase roadside assistance via an insurance company? Below are a few things you should consider before you purchase roadside assistance from your insurance company.

Read the Fine Print.

Often roadside assistance serviced by insurance companies will only cover the tow of your RV if the RV itself is broken down and needing a tow. I was recently speaking with a friend in Florida whose boyfriend had purchased an upgraded plan of roadside assistance for his towable RV through his insurance company. While they were glad to tow his broken-down truck, they denied him service for towing his trailer even though it was currently attached to the truck. They said there was nothing wrong with the trailer, so there was no need to tow it. Consequently, his truck was towed away and his trailer was left on the side of the road. He failed to read the fine print in his plan and he was literally left stranded because of it.

Read The Fine Print

Another member recently informed us that when he tried to have his RV towed through his insurance company that they only cover the tow of the RV in the event it is involved in a wreck. So even though his RV was mechanically disabled and needed to be towed in for service, his insurance company denied him. He had also paid extra for his “roadside” coverage and didn’t fully realize the limitations of the service until he was on the side of the road needing help.

Your Insurance Premiums WILL Increase?

Often with roadside assistance via an insurance company you will have to pay per person and per vehicle. Many people won’t mind paying a little extra if it will give them peace of mind knowing that their family is safe and will be taken care of in an emergency. But sometimes having multiple people covered by the same roadside assistance plan can be detrimental if your provider is an insurance company.

One customer was purchasing his new RV and when attempting to purchase insurance for it he was quoted an outrageous amount. When he contacted his insurance company to inquire why they quoted him an amount much higher than he was previously paying they informed him that it was due to his excessive usage. He couldn’t understand how his needing one tow that year could be considered excessive. The insurance company then informed him that he had used it once, his wife had used it twice, and his kids had used it a total of 3 times that year. He had no clue that his entire family had used it multiple times that year because they all failed to tell him so he was blindsided by the increased rate.
Increased Premiums

The one thing many people don’t think of is that when you get roadside assistance via your insurance company is that they will track your usage and use that information to dictate your rates. When you purchase roadside assistance through your insurance company you will ultimately be punished for using it. It kind of defeats the whole purpose of having it, right?

Are They RV Experts?

RVs are an entirely different beast than a normal car or truck. They’re complex and quirky. While many insurance companies are quite competent in handling claims, most are probably not what you or I would classify as “RV Experts.” Simply put, they don’t typically have RV-certified technicians on staff supervising and arranging tows and other roadside services. As a result, they often don’t have the necessary training to ensure you and your RV are taken care of properly. Certain information about your RV needs to be communicated to the tow provider sent to help you. Furthermore, you often need someone highly trained to confirm the tow provider’s qualifications.

RV Experts

For example, if you drive a big Class A RV diesel pusher, then not only does the tow truck need to be of a certain weight, but the tow provider also needs to make sure they tow your RV in the correct manner. I’ve heard countless stories from customers who had a Class A diesel pusher and when they went through a roadside provider that doesn’t have their own in-house RV-trained expert technicians, their RV was severely damaged. In almost every instance the roadside provider sent out a tow truck that was not heavy enough to properly tow the unit. Then in order to account for the extreme weight in the rear of the RV due to the rear placement of the engine, the tow provider towed the RV from the rear and ended up shattering their windshield. The tow provider was not qualified to tow an RV of that size and the roadside provider didn’t realize the tow truck wasn’t qualified because they honestly weren’t qualified either.

And I can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard from RVers who went through a non-RV-Expert roadside assistance company only to have their RV towed to a repair facility that isn’t qualified to repair their RV. Then the customer was left completely responsible for towing their RV to a qualified facility because the insurance-based roadside assistance provider fulfilled their obligation of getting the RV to a safe place. And in many instances, the customer ended up paying even more money than they would have paid had they not relied on their insurance company provider because the provider towed them in the opposite direction of the nearest qualified repair facility.

Ultimately, the only real question you need to ask yourself is do you really want to gamble with your RV? When you find yourself on the side of the road needing help, you want to be confident that the people you’re calling can actually help you. You want to know that the people you’re calling have special RV training and that your roadside assistance is not simply being treated as an afterthought. Furthermore, you want to call in confidence knowing you won’t be punished for needing help. Buying your RV is a huge decision, but sometimes the even bigger and more important decision can be choosing a roadside assistance provider. At Coach-Net, we are RV experts. We understand your RV needs because we have our own in-house RV technicians, and we have specialized in providing roadside assistance for RVs for over 30 years. And as RVers ourselves, we understand that everyone needs help sometimes and you shouldn’t be hesitant to call for help because you’re worried about being punished for using the services you’ve already paid for. If you have any questions about RV roadside assistance don’t hesitate to give us a call so that we can be your connection to carefree RVing.

Coach-Net Girls RV TripWay back in 1987, Coach-Net was created for RVers by RVers. Many years and even decades have passed, resulting in so much change.  RVs have progressed in size and with countless electronic updates. And the widespread use of the internet has not only made our trip planning infinitely easier, it has allowed our exploration of the outdoors to be so much more accessible.  And with the passing of time, even Coach-Net has changed, continually updating our methods and tools to better serve our members. But while many things have changed, there is one thing that has always stayed the same. We are RVers!  The only way to truly understand the intimidation a new RVer has when driving their RV, or setting up in a campground for the very first time is by experiencing that moment ourselves.  For this reason, Coach-Net proudly owns not just one, but two RVs – a motorized and a towable unit both available for our employees to go camping with family and friends, at no cost. We want every person working for Coach-Net to have that personal camping experience and we want to be able to share our experiences with you.

In November 2019, 6 Coach-Net women from all departments including Sales, Accounting and Marketing embarked on a camping adventure together where they camped in Coach-Net’s motorized and towable units.  Here’s more about their trip:

Q:  Where did you go?

A:  We camped at the beautiful Vineyards Campground & Cabins in Grapevine, TX.  Our rigs were parked right off the shores of Grapevine Lake where there were plenty of opportunities to hike, run, bike and fish.

Coach-Net Airstream

Q:  How long was your trip?

A:  We were only there for a weekend, but could have definitely stayed longer.  It was the perfect weekend getaway.

Q:  Was this your first time RVing?

A:  There were 3 of us who had RV’d before and 3 of us were newbies. Us newbies were very excited to have our RVing vets with us, as there is much to know about setting up and breaking down camp.  And, if we needed anything, we took comfort in knowing that our Coach-Net RV Techs were just a phone call away.  For the 3 of us that were inexperienced, having access to our Coach-Net RV techs allowed us to have a truly carefree RVing experience.

Coach-Net Ladies

Q:  What’s your fondest memory from your trip?

A:  The nightly campfires!  It was so much fun sitting around the campfire, enjoying the beauty of the flickering flames and soaking up the sounds of the crackling wood.  It was a wonderful way to see our coworkers in a different light and get to know each other on a deeper level. We made s’mores, told all sorts of entertaining stories, and shared lots of laughs.  Spending time with friends and family around a warm campfire creates a connection like no other.

Campfire

Q:  Did you find anything challenging about your RV trip?

A:  Driving RVs, whether towing one or maneuvering a Class A, can always be intimidating and sometimes challenging.  For our group, that was by far the most daunting part of RVing – especially for the 3 rookies.  Luckily, RV Driving School is available to help teach the skills needed in all different traffic conditions.

Q:  Would you go again?

A:  Most definitely!  A few of us have already reserved the company RV for trips in the spring and can’t wait!

Q:  Why do you love RVing?

A:  It gives a way to escape, even for just a short amount of time.  Camping means time outdoors which is always a huge stress reliever and a mood booster.  We don’t take enough time to just enjoy the simpler things in life, like sipping hot coffee on a cool fall morning while watching a gorgeous sunrise or just simply smiling and waving at the strangers in the campsite next to you.  This is all made possible through RVing.

What Makes Coach-Net Different

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” – Coco Chanel

In a modern society that compels everyone to be the same, that classic quote from Coco Chanel causes pause. Everyone is encouraged to dress the same, act the same, talk the same, and everyone should have the same cookie-cutter lifestyle. But anyone who RVs knows that if you choose to be ordinary, like everyone else, you can deprive yourself from something extraordinary. While having a traditional brick and mortar house can be beautiful, it will never give you the freedom and thrill of living full time on the road in an RV. The unique sense of adventure you get from living in an RV is simply irreplaceable. And there are all sorts of unique qualities that can make a person, or a business, irreplaceable.

There are almost countless roadside assistance companies to choose from. It seems that each day a new company is popping up or branching out to offer roadside assistance. So how do you choose? Who should you rely on when you need help? On paper, an uncritical eye could easily have similar sentiments about roadside assistance companies. “They’re all the same. They all provide roadside assistance.” So why do so many RVers choose Coach-Net as the people they call when they need help? What makes Coach-Net different? Are all roadside assistance companies equal, or is there something about Coach-Net that sets us apart from the rest? What makes Coach-Net irreplaceable? The answer is deeply rooted, but it can probably be summarized with just one word: culture.

Maya Angelou Quote

Words Coach-Net Employees Live By

It all started around a campfire. Over 30 years ago a group of RVers were sitting around the campfire swapping horror stories of being broken down on the side of the road, collectively chewing on their past aggravations, and the relentless run of issues RVers regularly face. Certain people knew of quality technicians in specific areas. Others had lesser-known tricks for troubleshooting difficult components. With their combined knowledge an idea was born. “Wouldn’t it be great if there was someone we could call for all of these issues who could help us in the moment? Rather than hear about the great technician, or learn of the helpful trick, long after we resolved our troubles, wouldn’t it be great to talk to a live person who could help us find the answers right then and there?”

Employees Around Campfire

Coach-Net Employees Around Campfire

That group wanted a network helping them when they were out traveling in their motorcoaches so that’s what they became. It was around that campfire that Coach-Net was created, and we have been proudly serving as a lifeline for RVers ever since. We didn’t just create a business overnight. Arguably being the first of its kind to offer high-end service for RVers, we have spent decades building and developing our program. We didn’t just see a successful business model and copy it simply for monetary gain. Coach-Net was created for RVers by RVers because they saw a need that wasn’t being met. RVers needed a resource that could provide immediate help. Over the past 30 years, everyone at Coach-Net has toiled to establish us as the go-to RV experts for travelers in need.

At Coach-Net, we pride ourselves on being RV experts; a passion that is easily evident in all that we do. Anyone who steps foot in our office is immediately immersed in the RV lifestyle. Our reception area greets visitors with our oversized Coach-Net sign perched above a giant silhouette of an RV camping scene. As you venture further, you’ll see one of our main walls prominently displaying our mission statement and core values as a testament to any visitors, and as a constant reminder to our team. We even have smaller magnetic versions hanging in each person’s workspace so that we never lose sight of our ultimate purpose.

Coach-Net Mission Statement

Coach-Net Mission Statement

We’re proud of what we do and we’re proud to work in such a fun industry. While most roadside assistance companies will outsource or subcontract to various call centers, at Coach-Net we take pride in our services; consequently, we insist on always doing our own work and keeping everything under one roof. Everyone at Coach-Net offices in the same open floor, allowing us to seamlessly serve our partners and our members. Having our agents, technicians, operations specialists, learning & development team, marketing, member services, and sales team all work in the same open space is also an ever-present reminder that each person within Coach-Net is integral to the system. No role is necessarily greater than another. We each contribute something unique and vital to fulfilling our mission: to create a carefree RV experience so everyone can focus on making memories with their friends and families.

Call Center

Finally, one of the things that makes Coach-Net truly authentic is the fact that we are RVers. Anyone can look at beautiful pictures, and read countless instructional manuals, but nothing can ever replace the feeling of driving a big Class A RV down a curving mountain roadway. The only way to truly understand the intimidation a new RVer has when setting up in a campground for the very first time is by experiencing that moment ourselves. And everyone should get to enjoy the warmth of a flickering campfire soothingly massage all of your senses while you watch your family climb into the cozy RV for a well-earned night of rest.

For this reason, Coach-Net proudly owns not just one, but two RVs – a motorized and a towable unit both available for our employees to go camping with family and friends, at no cost. We want every person working for Coach-Net to have that personal camping experience. It makes us more knowledgeable in our jobs and it inherently makes us more compassionate to our members’ struggles. After we have spent time in an RV dealing with the daily challenges they naturally produce, we realize that could easily be our own family calling in for assistance.

RVing is about enjoying one-of-a-kind experiences in some of the most unique places. RVers seek to create irreplaceable memories through personalized travels. So it only makes sense that when RVers inevitably encounter a moment where they need help, they should call someone who is invested in their passion and understanding of their unique needs. When you call Coach-Net needing help, you’re not just a random number struggling with some foreign issue. The person answering the phone has personal experience camping. They have explored the inside and outside of an RV, and consequently have a level of compassion that someone who has never RVed simply can’t replicate. There will always be other companies that offer roadside assistance. There will always be other companies that may even appear similar on paper. But at our core, Coach-Net is truly different. Our unique culture permeates everything we do. And our passion for RVing, and helping fellow RVers, is unparalleled and irreplaceable.
