Preparing For The Perfect RV Tailgate Party

RV Tailgate PartyFootball has officially begun!  And where there is football there are some awesome tailgate parties.  With an RV, tailgating is taken to a whole other level.  You have access to a full kitchen, air conditioning, and your own bathroom.  To help prepare you for your game-day adventure, check out these tips to ensure you have the perfect party.  So, get in the team spirit, grab your favorite jersey and let’s hit the road!

Prepare Your Menu

RV TailgatingFood is an essential for any tailgate party but to make sure you can relax and enjoy the party, prepare what you can in advance.  You can’t go wrong with some game-day basics like chips and dips and then move on to something heartier like burgers, wings or even ribs.  You can find some great tailgating recipes in our recipe section.

If you are having a large group, it’s a good idea to make it a potluck.  That way you can enjoy different dishes without having to do all of the cooking.

Finally, make sure you pack any extra items you might need including bottle openers, plastic baggies, aluminum foil, extra ice, extra plates, garbage bags, storage containers, and paper towels.

Prepare For Parking

  • Because your RV takes up more space than other vehicles, some cities and stadiums have RV parking policies.  These policies may even include special permits.  Also, some lots are parking only while others include hookups.  It will definitely pay off to do a little research before arriving.
  • Make sure you arrive early so you get the perfect spot with enough room for your awning, tables, chairs and guests.

Prepare Your RV

  • Be sure to start your RV refrigerator several hours before the game.  This will ensure your food stays cool.  It also helps to load your fridge with pre-cooled food and beverages so that it doesn’t have to work too hard.
  • Make sure you know the limits of your generator.  Trying to run several appliances can trip a circuit breaker.  And, just in case, be sure you know where the breaker panel is located.  It’s a good idea to run the generator a day or two before the big game to make sure it’s working properly.
  • Make sure to put water and chemicals in the black tank before the first use.  Dump and flush the tank first and then add enough water to cover the bottom.  Also, be sure your guests know what items can and can’t be flushed in an RV toilet.
  • Make sure your RV is serviced according to your owner’s manual so that everything is in working order.  Don’t forget to check your tires, filters, fluid levels, air conditioning, and batteries.

Prepare For The Elements

RV TailgatingYou never know what Mother Nature has in store so always be prepared by packing these essentials:

  • An awning or umbrella to protect you from the sun on a nice day, or the rain on a cloudy one.
  • Portable outdoor fan or heater
  • Sunglasses
  • Bug repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Appropriate clothing for the temperature outside
  • Plenty of water and non-sugary beverages on hand to stay hydrated – un-sweetened iced tea and Gatorade are good choices.

Prepare For Your Departure

  • ALWAYS clean up after yourself.  Bring plenty and trash bags and don’t litter.
  • Be a responsible drinker and if you do drink, please have a designated driver to make sure you get home safely.

Prepare For The Unexpected

As much as we want everything to run smoothly, sometimes things just happen.  It could be a flat tire on your way to the game or a dead battery as you are trying to leave.  It’s always a good idea to have an RV-specific roadside assistance plan to help you out when you need it most.  Coach-Net will ensure you get there and back safely!

Tailgate parties and RVs are a perfect match. Whether you’re planning a tailgating party at a local campground, a stadium close to home, or even one out of town, having the convenience of a home on wheels adds to the enjoyment and the ease of party preparation. To help prepare for your tailgating adventure, check out these tips to ensure you have a fun-filled time:

Essentials

  • An awning or umbrella to protect you from the sun on a nice day, or the rain on a cloudy one.
  • Portable outdoor fan or heater.
  • Folding lawn chairs.
  • Sunglasses, bug repellent, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing for the temperature outside
  • A game or two like horseshoes or corn hole, or if there’s a designated play area at the park, campground, or stadium, bring a football or play badminton.
  • Plenty of water and non-sugary beverages on hand to stay hydrated – un-sweetened iced tea and Gatorade are good choices.
  • Plenty of snacks and food! Both are requirements for a successful tailgating party.

Tailgating Food

More on that last point: everyone loves tailgating food and beverage. Keep it simple so there’s time to socialize and enjoy the activities.

  • Set up a table with snacks. Include different varieties of chips, pretzels, fresh veggies, and dips (including salsa and spreads). Keep anything that requires refrigeration on ice.
  • Light up the grill and make it a traditional cookout with hotdogs and burgers. If you have room, throw on a package of wings or a slab of ribs.
  • Purchase premade potato salad and coleslaw from a local deli or make ahead of time. Keep cool until food is ready to serve.
  • Prepare as much ahead of time as possible. Place sliced tomatoes, pickles, sliced onions, and lettuce in separate dishes so guests can dress up their burgers. Have an assortment of sliced cheese on hand to add to your burger.
  • For the dogs, have mustard, ketchup, relish, diced onions, and shredded cheese. Heat a can of hot dog chili and place a container aside.

RV Travel Recipes

No matter where your recreational vehicle takes you, food is part of the travel plan. With many fall activities to enjoy, fast and easy recipes will keep your vacation itinerary right on time.

Steak Kebabs

  • Cube a 2 lb rib-eye steak. Set aside.
  • Mix 1 tbsp. brown sugar and 4 tbsp. soy sauce in a large bowl. Add 1 clove of garlic, squeezed and pressed. Mix in 1 1/2 tsp. cumin, 3/4 tsp. ground coriander, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, 3/4 tsp. grated orange zest, and a dash of cayenne pepper.
  • Gradually add 2 tbsp. olive oil.
  • Set aside at least 2 tbsp. of the marinade.
  • Place the cubed steak in the marinade and coat. Allow to sit for at least 30 minutes turning the meat frequently.
  • Place meat on skewers leaving space between each cube. Cook over a medium hot grill for approximately 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove from skewers and drizzle with the extra marinade and garnish with mint sprigs or cilantro and serve.

Zesty Deviled Eggs
Deviled eggs are a delicious and versatile item. Serve as an accompaniment to any meal, as an appetizer, as a snack, or use leftovers to make egg salad for sandwiches.

    • Boil or steam 4 large eggs. Once cooked, place in a bowl of cold water. Peel and shell under a cold stream of water. Set aside on a platter until eggs are at room temperature.
    • Once cooled, slice lengthwise. Scoop out the yoke, place in a separate bowl and mash with the back of a spoon.
    • Add 1/2 tsp. Dijon mustard, 3 tbsp. mayonnaise, and a dash of salt and pepper. Optional: 1/2 tsp. of finely diced onion or green pepper.
    • Mix until smooth. Add more salt and pepper, if necessary or desired.
    • Spoon egg mixture into the round recesses of the egg whites.
    • Here’s the zesty part: instead of sprinkling the top with traditional paprika, use cayenne pepper.
    • Don’t overdo it. Add just enough to spice up the egg.
    • Garnish with diced chives.
    • Alternative: top half the eggs with cayenne pepper and the other half with paprika. Provide a bottle of hot sauce for those who prefer extra zest.

If you have another favorite fall recipe- share it with us! The convenience of Coach-Net and its network of roadside assistance affiliates keep RV enthusiasts cooking from one coast to another.

Coach-Net BBQ Recipe Contest

There are those who walk among us with super-human capabilities. They are the magical masters of the grill. They have the ability to make people’s mouths water with the mere sight of their efforts. They can draw neighbors from great distances with just the smell of smoke. Somehow they have found the secret to the barbecue.

Perhaps it is genetic, handed down in some mysterious family BBQ DNA. There are those of us who hope it is a learned skill, and continue to try to achieve a semblance of barbecue success. Despite all of our efforts, the grill masters have reached a level of taste, texture, and flavor that exceed the rest.

If you have achieved a level where friends, relatives, and neighbors gather to taste your barbecue creations, we are looking for you! We are in search of the best barbecue recipes we can find and are willing to reward you for your efforts. We are encouraging those with this special talent to enter our first ever BBQ Recipe Contest. The grand prize? A $200 grilling package!

Yes, we know that those who imitate your recipe will not achieve your greatness. There is a talent that cannot be shared by the mere sharing of a recipe. It will however, serve to inspire those who are searching for greatness to continue trying.

So what do you say? Are you the owner of such a recipe? Do you know someone who is an exceptional master of the grill? You have until July 31st to enter your best barbecue recipe, or encourage someone you know to do so. Are you a specialist in pork, chicken, beef or something else? Choose your weapon and send your recipe to us. We love pictures but they are not a requirement. The rules are loose so if you can cook it on a grill and it is tasty, send that recipe to us. We look forward to sharing your culinary concoctions and awarding our grand prize!

To get you started thinking about recipes, here’s a quick and easy grilling marinade for virtually any meat using 3 simple ingredients:

Simply mix an 8-ounce bottle of red French dressing, a 10-ounce jar of apricot preserves and a single envelope of dry onion soup mix. Marinate your meat with the mixture in a large bowl for about an hour and get grilling!

Favorite Recipes, Recipes, Tailgating, Tailgating Recipes

Recreational Vehicles are a great source of fun and food. Gathering family and friends together for a little tailgate party does not have to be relegated to just football season. Tailgate parties are great for NASCAR races and for big events like the NBA Finals, March Madness, and even for holidays like the 4th of July. Family celebrations can be cause for a tailgate party.

If you are on the road, you most likely don’t want to take a lot of time to prepare appetizers for these fun events. Here’s a little roadside assistance from your friends at Coach-Net. It’s a list of easy to prepare appetizers for your next tailgate party.

Fried Ravioli

Sounds complicated but it’s a breeze. Buy your choice of uncooked meat or cheese ravioli and fry in olive oil until just lightly brown. Drain the ravioli and add a little salt and grated Parmesan cheese. Serve with some warm marinara sauce on the side and you are good to go!

Mini Hot Dogs or Sausages

Here’s another easy tailgate appetizer option. Start with a 16oz bottle of unflavored barbecue sauce in a crock-pot. Stir in three heaping tablespoons of grape jelly, and heat for about a half hour, stirring until jelly melts. Drain your mini-dogs or sausages and add to the mixture. Within an hour or two you will have a treat everyone will love!

Blue Cheese with Pecan Spread

It doesn’t get much easier than this. Mix a cup of softened blue cheese with 4 tablespoons of chopped toasted pecans. Use on crackers or vegetables, and even add a drizzle of honey to give it an extra layer of flavor.

Stuffed Cheesecake Strawberries

Stuffed Strawberries

These are so good they may have to be considered a desert. Take 8 ounces of cream cheese and let it soften. Mix in 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar (sifted) and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the softened cream cheese. Hollow out the tops of about two pounds of strawberries and scoop in the cheese mixture. Dip the tops of the stuffed strawberries in crushed graham crackers and watch the reaction!

Stuffed Mini-Bellas

Remove the stems from the mini-portabella mushrooms, and then stuff with softened cream cheese. Broil until the cheese is melted and then sprinkle on some chives and/or some finely chopped tomatoes or green onions. Simple and vegetarian!

Traveling in a recreational vehicle is should be a stress-free, fun adventure. After all, isn’t that why you got an RV? If you have yet to investigate coach net roadside assistance, you’ve yet to discover a new level of traveling confidence in your recreational vehicle. Coach-Net roadside offers plans that will cover all of your vehicles while on the road including motorcycles.

Enjoy your tailgating!
